Journey back to Zaïre: January 31st - February 11th 2004

Here you will find everything about me going back to my roots. Yeah, i call it roots. I lived there for 10 years!

Why this trip: I always had the desire to see Zaïre again.
Even more because we were so harshly forced to flee from Zaïre back in 1991. Friday i still was at school. Saturday we were looking for a tv. Sunday we went to church. Monday hell broke lose. and 5 days later we were back in Holland. Where we just left a month ago. Our plan was to stay in Zaïre for 2 or 3 years. But no, apparently that was not meant to happen.
The way we left didnt leave any chance to say farewell from Zaïre in a proper way. And thats precisely what i want to do now.

Before going to Zaïre i had to get some vaccinations. Which i did yesterday. Actually i was quite nervous
to get these stings in my arms. But it was actually nothing to worry about. I felt hardly anything.
I got 3 vaccinations. Against D.T.P., Yellow Fever and Hepatitus A.
A day before i leave i have to start anti malaria pills. I hope those won't make me feel sick.

Only a few days left before I head over to Zaïre. An unpleasent surprise happened yesterday morning. I already had a bit of a sore throat since saturday, but monday morning it was much worse. Felt really sick so I stayed home from work and lied on my bed all day. Today my throat feels still the same. Luckely I don't have any fever orso. I do feel that all the energy my body has, is used to heal the throat. Hopefully this all will be over before saturday!

I'm feeling a lot better. Not completely healed though. I'll rest as much as possible until i leave.
Here is a scanned version of the Visum i got for Congo. It seems like the poorer the country the nicer the visum.
